We ask for a deposit to secure your booking (see below for details). All bookings will be confirmed in writing on receipt of the appropriate payment. Our policy on refunds is set out below. Reservations made by telephone or e-mail will be held for 7 days pending receipt of your deposit. Where a deposit is not received within 7 days, we reserve the right to accept a booking from someone else without consulting you, but will return your payment in full should it arrive after the holiday has been re-sold.
We regret we are unable to accept payments by Credit or Debit Card. Payment by cheque or cash is prefered; we can also accept payment by PayPal, subject to a 3% surcharge - please ask for details. For overseas bookings, we can accept payment by MoneyGram, Paypal or bank transfer (fees may apply)..
General: We aim to ensure the cottages are comfortable, well-equipped and clean for all our guests. We would appreciate it if you would treat them with respect and ensure they are left in good order at the end of your stay. If you notice any problems which we may have missed, please let us know so we can attend to these as soon as possible. We understand that minor breakages are sometimes unavoidable, but please keep us informed so we can be sure to replace items for future guests. This is particularly important at Garlieston, where the nearest large store is an hour's drive away, making it impossible to buy replacements on changeover day. Occupancy:For insurance reasons, only those guests listed on your booking form may stay at the property. Any unauthorised variation from this may result in your being asked to vacate the property.
Arrival times: To ensure we have time to make the property ready for your arrival, we normally ask that guests arrive no earlier than 2.30pm. We will contact you once your booking is confirmed to arrange key collection details etc.
Departure times: To allow for the cleaning of the cottage, please vacate the property by 10am on the last day of your holiday.
Security Deposit: All bookings are subject to a £50 security deposit, which is refundable in full after satisfactory inspection of the property at the end of your stay. This will normally be by cheque, sent out by post within 10 days of departure.We normally allow up to 3 hours to clean between bookings - should the property be left in a poor state, additonal cleaning time will be charged at £12 per hour or part thereof.In the event of anyunreporteddamage / breakages, you will be notifiedby post or emailwithin 7 days, and the cost of repair or replacement will be deducted from your deposit
Gas and Electricity Charges: Forest Edge: The first 16 units of gas, and the first 60 units of electricity are included in your rent for weekly bookings, or pro rata for short breaks. Experience over some 5 years has shown that this is more than adequate for normal usage at any time of year. The meters will be read at the start and finish of your stay, and any extra consumption charged at a rate of £1 per unit (gas) and £1 per 5 units (electricity). The total amount chargeable will be deducted from your security deposit. (We will leave a card with you where you can enter your own readings to confirm our own.) Water's Edge: The property is all-electric and due to the high cost of running the heating, we reserve the right to make an additional charge (November to March), of up to £10 per week, should the average daytime temperature fall below 5 degrees for 2 or more days, or up to £20 below 1 degree, deductible from your security deposit. Pets: You may bring two well-controlled dog with you to ‘Water's Edge’ or 'Forest Edge', at an extra charge of £20 per booking, but please advise us of this in advance. We ask that you bring a bed for your dog(s), and ensure it is not allowed on sofas, beds and other soft furnishings and not left unattended in the property (unless kept in a dog crate). Please also ensure your dog is not permitted to stray onto our neighbours' land, and is kept on the lead at all times in the communal areas at Garlieston Harbour, and ensure you clean up any mess in the grounds and environs of the property. We reserve the right to refuse admission to guests arriving with more than 2 dogs.
Payment: If booking more than 8 weeks in advance, a 25% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance due 8 weeks prior to the start of your holiday. For bookings made 8 weeks or less in advance, the full cost is required at the time of booking. Please make cheques payable to A & J Duncalf, and post, with your completed booking form, to Idle Hour Holidays, 47 Maxwell Park, Dalbeattie, DG5 4LQ. We will confirm your booking by post or email with full details of balance due, travel instructions etc.
Cancellation: Should you need to cancel your booking the following charges will apply:
12 weeks notice or more: full refund, less £25 administration charge
